Thun Tankers has ordered four dual-fuel coastal tankers from Scheepswerf Ferus Smit in the Netherlands for an undisclosed contract price.
The 9,500-cbm vessels, which will have IMO II notation, will be able to run off LNG as a dual fuel “depending on our clients’ request”, Thun said in a release.
The new 7,999-dwt ships will gradually replace Thun’s existing tankers and will begin to be delivered in the fourth quarter of 2018 onwards.
They will also be fitted with ballast water treatment systems, among other environmentally friendly features.
“We in Erik Thun have always had a high focus on resource efficiency that translates into modern environmental care. We are convinced that these vessels will contribute to provide the best logistical and most environmental friendly transport solution to our customers,” said Anders Källsson, CEO of Sweden’s Erik Thun, parent company of Netherlands-based Thun Tankers.
Scheepswerf Ferus Smit has previously built more than 30 vessels for the Erik Thun group.
